Standing team supporting HBC’s building, ministries and projects [Current leader — to confirm]

The Fund Raising Team runs the fund-raising initiatives that keep HBC’s building, ministries and outreach work going. It is not easy to maintain a 136-year-old listed church building. As Pastor Cornelius wrote in 2015: “It is not easy to upkeep a building that is 125 years old. Maintenance is costly and bills have to be paid. We had a lot of work done that costs huge sums of money. The roofing alone cost us over £90,000. Refurbishing the hall and building new toilet facilities with a shower room is a cost we have to bear. Erecting a new ramp to provide access for wheel chair users was a project undertaken and completed by the church. The rewiring of the church, installing the multimedia system in the main sanctuary and installing screens downstairs cost quite a substantial sum of money.”

Fund-raising at HBC has historically been a shared effort, with every group contributing. The 2015 booklet records: “We applaud all the organizations for their selfless giving to defray the costs of these projects. Some organizations turned all their finances over to the church to help with the work done for these projects.” The Senior Choir holds an annual fund-raising Gospel Concert (with the proceeds supporting Water Aid). The Rejoice Group actively supports other groups’ fund-raising and gives to Mercy Ships. Even in the 1920s the Choir’s Good Friday rendering of Gaul’s The Holy City sent its collection (£5/0/6d) directly to the Organ Fund — fund-raising has always been a corporate effort across the body.
